Mike Krieger

Mike Krieger joined Anthropic in May 2024 as its first chief product officer and, since January 2026, has worked in Anthropic Labs, the internal incubator for products at the edge of what Claude can do. He gave up the executive title to become a member of technical staff, co-leading Labs with Ben Mann and reporting to president Daniela Amodei.

Born in São Paulo in 1986, Krieger studied symbolic systems at Stanford and in 2010 co-founded Instagram with Kevin Systrom, serving as chief technology officer. Anthropic's announcement noted that he grew Instagram's engineering team to more than 450 people as the service passed a billion users. Facebook bought Instagram in 2012; Krieger and Systrom left in September 2018. The pair later built Artifact, a personalized news app driven by machine learning, which they shut down in early 2024 before Yahoo acquired it that April.

At Anthropic he oversaw product engineering, product management and design while Claude grew from a chat app into a line of enterprise and developer products, and he joined Figma's board in July 2025. When Anthropic reorganized in January 2026, it said the Labs approach had produced Claude Code, which grew "from a research preview to a billion-dollar product in six months," as well as the Model Context Protocol and Cowork; Ami Vora took over the product organization. In April 2026 Krieger resigned from Figma's board on the same day The Information reported that Anthropic's next model would include design tools that could compete with Figma. He told Wired in 2025 that Anthropic was looking at "how to help Claude accelerate the development of our actual Claude app."
